David Hall

David Hall

He came from Scotland
In 1944
To fight against the enemy
In the Second World War
He came across the water
To the coast of Normandy
With danger for his own life
To set us free
He landed on a beach
That stormy day in June
The bagpipe was playing
An old Scottish tune

He listened to what Lord Lovat
Commanded his men to do
"Stay alive and do not kill
If you don't have to"
The men didn't say a word
They were in a trance
When their boats reached the battlefield
The beach at Arromanches
David was a lucky man
He didn't die that day
He could hear the bagpipe
Playing along the way
